Autism – 2

What Is Autism?

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that effects communication and behavior.

Development is the process that creates growth progress and change. The way a person grows and evolves.

Disorder is the disruption of a system. People who are deemed Autistic or have ASD evolve in a way that is outside of your typical order when compared to the majority of other people.

Children that are autistic may have challenges with but are not limited to:

  • social interactions
  • communication
  • restricted and/or little to no interest in things
  • repetitive behaviors
  • sensory issues
  • lack of eye contact
  • non responsive (especially when being called by name)

Some research suggests that it is a neurological difference in the brain which causes children who have ASD to process information differently. Autistic individuals are referred to as ‘nuerodivergent’. Children whose development is in order with the system are considered ‘nuerotypicals, meaning they are developing in a typical manner.

If you have a child who is autistic, just received a diagnosis, or are apart of a support system to someone with ASD this may be the community for you. Getting an Autism diagnosis is not always easy but there is action you can take to improve the quality of life for you and your child.

Trust me when I say, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
